Cast iron worm reducer for right angle drive where the load is heavy or shocky. Cast iron takes more punishment than aluminium and holds shaft alignment better under load. At higher ratios the worm set is effectively self locking, which is useful on a lift or an incline, though it should never be relied on as a brake.
